Handling Family Conflicts Healthily
Handling Family Conflicts Healthily A family is composed of unique individuals with different personalities, ideas, opinions, and ways of doing things. Its no wonder disagreements and conflicts arise from time to time, and most psychologists will tell you that they are a normal part of being a family and living together. Arguments and misunderstandings are inevitable in families, but the ways members choose to handle these conflicts can make a huge difference in maintaining a happy relationship with each other. Families who choose to peacefully resolve conflict are likely to grow closer as they learn how to take each others feelings into consideration. Knowing how to better manage family conflict will promote growth and cohesion on the domestic front. The Birth of Conflict in the Family When two or more people with distinct personalities and ideas spend a lot of time together, you can expect some opposing thoughts to arise. This is part of the natural progression of any relationship. Comparing different viewpoints can be helpful for people to learn and grow, but only if they are presented in a non-threatening manner. Problems may arise when individuals get caught up in their egos and forget how to think rationally. If a conflict becomes a winner-takes-all battle, nobody wins. In many cases, family members argue about something other than the real issue at hand, which is a fear of losing control. For example, teenagers take advantage of everyday situations as battlegrounds to affirm their newfound independence. Parents react in horror and panic at the thought of losing control over their once submissive children. The result is the drawing of battle lines where persistent conflicts happen. The same principle applies to other family relationships. The friction between mother and daughter-in-law is usually a fight for control over the son/husband; the struggle for dominance between husband and wife is unconsciously aimed at maintaining the level of control in their marriage; and siblings are always squabbling to control the others. As each of these relationships evolves, the control issues may be resolved peacefully in a way acceptable to the parties concerned. However, when conflicts are unresolved, the relationships may be destroyed. The Damaging Effects of Unresolved Conflict Persistent conflict can strain your lives, not just your relationships. Whether the issue is a minor one or a long-standing major dispute, it can compromise the level of trust, especially if no apologies are given and no other form of resolution is reached. The presence of conflict may spawn resentment in other family members and cause them to take sides. When conflicts are not resolved, the negative feelings may build up under the surface. Even if members appear to have moved on and remain polite to each other, the pain and mistrust may still linger. At times, the effort to resolve conflicts may involve bringing up old hurts, which can backfire when the other party feels attacked anew. On the other hand, avoiding the issue can harbor further resentment and poison feelings. Not surprisingly, chronic unresolved conflict is the leading cause of separation/divorce among couples. It is also associated with emotional insecurity in children. Youngsters with parents in high-conflict marriages are more likely to experience behavioral and academic problems, depression and other psychological issues, rejection, etc. On the other hand, parents who know how to handle conflict the healthy way are more likely to provide their children with good relationships and parental warmth. Reaching Out for Help Sometimes, family conflict can reach the point of affecting the members lives and their everyday functioning. This is a clear signal that some external support and a neutral perspective may be beneficial before the conflict damages the family permanently. It is definitely time to get help when the following warning signs appear in either children or parents: Change in eating habits or sleeping patterns Unexplained tiredness Significant weight loss or gain Anxiousness Irritability Consistent physical pain Alcohol or substance abuse Academic failure Promiscuous behavior depression Although conflict cannot be completely removed from a family, counseling can provide the help needed to resolve conflicts the healthy way. Sometimes it takes a caring stranger with an impartial voice to clear the way for mutual understanding and harmonious relations in your family. Where to Find Help Resolving family conflict can be daunting considering the number of personalities involved. Often an approach called family therapy is needed to address the issues impacting the entire family and offer a solution beneficial to all. It is a treatment option that meets the needs of a family embroiled in conflict. If your family is experiencing extended conflict that is negatively affecting your lives, the logical step is to see a counselor and learn to resolve it in a healthy way. At Carolina Counseling Services in Pittsboro, NC, one of the independently contracted counselors may be the right-fit professional to help you.

Peer-Reviewed Article: Heart Disease Essay -- Article Review
There are many reasons I have used health care services at different times in my lifetime from birth to the present time. I have utilized pregnancy healthcare services. I have used health care services for preventive care such as a yearly Pap smear or health physicals. My friends, family and my co-workers may use health care services for the same reasons as mine, especially if they are of the same gender. The peer-reviewed article that I chose was about heart disease. Heart disease needs particular attention from health care administrators, since ââ¬Å"Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a progressive syndrome that results in a poor quality of life for the patient and places an economic burden on the health care systemâ⬠. (Ramani, Uber, & Mehra, 2010). There is no one test to diagnose heart failure. Hypertension increases the risk of heart failure 2 to 3 fold. (He, et al, 2001) The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has identified 4 stages of heart failure. (Hunt, Abraham, Chin et al, 2009). Screening patients for heart failure is sometimes controversial. Health care administrators...

Foreign Policy in Bangladesh
Bangladesh has a master guideline for foreign policy from its constitution ââ¬Å"friendship with all and malice towards noneâ⬠. Foreign policy of Bangladesh is one of few sectors that has ever been unreformed since the birth of the nation. Bangladesh is obviously a prospective country of its unique position. In view of achieving its prospects, Bangladesh needs significant changes in foreign policy sector. The more the time goes ahead, the more the world becomes interdependent. In this age of globalization, no nation can stay in isolation. All states, therefore, participate in the interplay of the international politics with the specific foreign policies to achieve the goals of the national interests. Therefore the purpose-oriented foreign policy matters for Bangladesh to get prosperity. The very fundamental directions of the constitution of Bangladesh should remain the roots of foreign policy of Bangladesh. So I recommend the goals of foreign policy of Bangladesh in the name of 4Ps: Protection, Progress, Promotion and Peace. From the theoretical perspectives in case of suggested four Ps for Bangladesh foreign policy, realism would theorize the first P-protection; Open Market Economy based on global capitalism theorizes the second P-progress and Nationalism (Bangladeshi) would theorize the third P-promotion. Based on these four Ps, the following foreign policies are recommended as core policies for Bangladesh to march its unique prospective positions in the world and also the todayââ¬â¢s world affairs.Under the first P-protection, the main policy would be to protect the sovereignty of the state from all kinds of threats from any sources including next door nations, any state, international corporations/organizations. Overall, Bangladesh should remain as Zero Tolerance Policy dealing with all sorts of threats to its sovereignty of state, citizens and assets. In this regards, foreign policy would work to establish a strong military and intelligence base of Bangladesh in the region.Under the second P-Progress, the main policy would be to gain economic boom out of liberalized and globalized world trade policies. The international trade has been shifting from the Atlantic to the pacific, which make the idea of Asia/Pacific century ever more feasible. Foreign policies of Bangladesh would be to secure the relative frontier roles in the Asian politics. Under the third P- Promotion, the main policy would be to promote Bangladesh as a whole positively in the world so that the citizens of the world can learn and understand the integrity of Bangladesh.Foreign policy would be to create a good image of Bangladesh to the rest of the world by promoting the achievements of the nation and also of the individual citizens like Bangladesh secured its independence by a great war of around nine-month long, Bangladesh is the only country in the world that fought for its language Bengali, Bangladesh is the country that invented the oral saline to cure milli ons of children worldwide, Bangladesh is one of the nations to achieve major parts of MDGs within the timeframe, Bangladesh is the home of microcredit which has been working as an effective tools of alleviating global poverty.Under the forth P-Peace, the main foreign policy would be to introduce Bangladesh as ââ¬Å"Peace Brokerâ⬠nation practically in the world. Bangladesh itself would be a fond of peaceful coexistence in the region nay in the world as per matched with other Ps of national interests. These four Ps are also inter-related. After all, foreign policy would secure the position of Bangladesh as ââ¬Å"essentialâ⬠in the regional and international forums both politically and economically.

Essay on American History 1865 - PresentEssay Writing Service
Essay on American History 1865 - PresentEssay Writing Service Essay on American History 1865 Present Essay on American History 1865 PresentThe period of Reconstruction (1865-1877) can be characterized by considerable changes in political and social life of the country. Blanche K. Bruceââ¬â¢s Speech in the Senate (March 31 1876) highlights the significant role of the state and political rights of all people (Bruce, 1876). The major goals of Radical Reconstruction were not feasible ones. à The three major issues to solve by the government were dealing with the states after their joining to the Union; treating southern whites, and dealing with the freed slaves. Lincolnââ¬â¢s plan for reconstruction was opposed by Congress (Bowles, 2011). à It is hardly possible to transform a society drastically by government action, especially if the Radical Republicans failed to agree with Johnsonââ¬â¢s plan and developed their own Reconstruction plan. Actually, the might attempts to do so prove to be counterproductive. The process of reconstruction and its consequences is demonstrated in the documentary Slavery by Another Name directed by Sam Pollard. The film challenges the assumption that slavery in the United States ended with Abraham Lincolnââ¬â¢s Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. The documentary shows the emergence of absolutely new forms of slavery after the Civil War, including the deceptive forms of forced labor in the South, involving thousands of black people, who were kept in perpetual bondage. The violence of slavery would continue until the WWII (Pollard, 2012).As a matter of fact, a more gradualist approach to extending rights to and establishing freedom for African Americans could have been more successful. However, the costs and dangers of such an approach could have been dramatic. The struggle for freedom has always been a complex task. African Americans would have been more successful in achieving their goals, if they had had enough support and power to protest against slavery and discrimination.

Free Essays on Orlando
Woolfââ¬â¢s interpretations of the role of marriage as illustrated in Orlando are symbolized by the gold wedding band, which in turn symbolizes eternity, and perhaps Orlando him/herself, who experiences marriage having both male and female traits. Orlando, beginning the novel as a young nobleman and transforming into a female with the movement into the 19th century, finds herself yielding to the structures of society; she begins to feel alone while ââ¬Å"everyone is mated except myselfâ⬠(pg.246). However, again transforming; Orlando feels a tingling over her entire body which centers, at last, on the second finger of her left hand. She becomes acutely aware of gold rings, which surround her everywhere she looks; ââ¬Å"It now seemed to her the whole world was ringed with goldâ⬠(pg.241). This tingling on Orlandoââ¬â¢s finger indicates that something is lacking- something which would not allow her to be a part of her present society. Furthermore, it serves as a constant signifier that a ring alone is not enough and Orlando is forced to ââ¬Å"yield completely and submissively to the spirit of the age and take a husbandâ⬠(pg.243). She acknowledges the absence of her ring, while observing that marri age is not natural. However, she does not reject the concept of marriage, only her empty symbol, as seen when Orlando pulls the ring off her finger to portray her death. Indeed, the free-spirited Orlando of the 18th century dies, as she must adapt to life in the 19th century. Orlandoââ¬â¢s previous time as a man enables her to bring masculine as well as feminine values and knowledge to her marriage. Therefore, when Orlando marries, she fills the ring with a new meaning rather than one predetermined by her society.... Critical Thinking 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Critical Thinking 2 - Essay Example Managing earnings is a commonly used strategy that bears many controversies on moral grounds. As matter of fact, managers differ on whether the act is ethical or unethical and only used as the last resort. Managing earnings barely refers to transferring earnings of one period and reporting them in a different period. For that reason, the actions results to nominal rather than real positive benefits. Remarkably, managers only use it lure a positive report as per the specified period. Therefore, managing of earnings is totally unethical as it manipulates the information that the reports provides. Managers understand this fact and thus consider manipulating earnings as only a short-term strategy with majority expecting an advanced long-term consequence. Neither the law nor GAAPs find managing earnings as an inappropriate measure and thus the decision on whether to use it or not is solemnly made by the managers. Literally it happens that every manager has used any of the earning managing options at a time. Though manipulation of operation expenses seems to a best measure, especially when used to reduce earnings, as argued by managers, all measures have one limitation in common. They favour the current report by hiding or misinterpreting crucial information necessary for mutual correlation of all stakeholders (Ketz,Ã 2006). Worse though, these stakeholders are the victims of any misfortunes accruing from the manipulation process. I that perspective, manipulation become unethical as it serves the needs of the manager at the expense of other stakeholders. Though a perfect short term solution adjustable in the long-run, that maybe in line with organisations, the fact that managers are short lived in the organisation as compared to sta keholders, creates some sense of the dilemma addressed in the agency theory.

Insolvency Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5000 words
Insolvency Law - Essay Example This concept of COMI has been used to allow the more powerful creditor to choose the regime that best suits their needs to maximize their return on credit. The following discussion is going to examine the theory of Professor Jackson and then consider whether he is indeed correct with insolvency law in the UK in domestic cases and then in consideration of cross-border proceedings where the EU regulations apply. In the US insolvency law seems to more geared towards the creditor regaining their money back, because in good faith they have lent it out. Jackson argues that the assets of the individual should be pooled together and divided amongst the creditors on the strict economic basis to maximize the return of credit to the creditor.1 This would mean that the laws that offer this maximization of credit should be applied, even if there are different jurisdictions because the debt crosses state or international borders.2 Therefore this will be illustrated as the approach taken by the EU in regard to the new trans-border insolvency regulations, rather than individual actions for each creditor in differing jurisdictions. The enforcement of individual creditors needs versus the individual debtors needs is the soft approach that the UK system of law takes and NOT in the best interests of creditors because they should be able to get the maximum return of credit because they are already a loss. Jac kson argues this hard economic approach, rather than an approach that considers the interests of the debtor.3 This is fair because the creditor in good faith has lent this money to the debtor expecting its return; therefore in the case that this is not possible the maximization of this return should be available.4 Therefore the question that has to be asked is what would the creditors' agreed to take prior to the insolvency and divided the assets this way, in order to get some return on the money lent in good faith, which is known as the creditor's bargain: The Creditor's Bargain Model was developed by Professor Jackson. The model in simplest terms was utilized to analyze almost any bankruptcy issue by asking the theoretical question: What would creditors agreed to if they had been asked in advance of insolvency Professor Jackson argued that normative bankruptcy principles should be viewed as resolving a limited common-pool problem caused by the execution and enforcement of individual creditor remedies when the debtor has insufficient assets to satisfy all claims.5 As one can see in the formula that Jackson uses the rights of the debtor are not considered, such as the right to a home and funds to live on. In the UK there is a lot softer system; however in light of the cross border insolvency regulations that the EU has introduced this will soon change for cases that transcend borders. UK Insolvency Law: The following discussion will consider the SSGR and UK insolvency proceedings; however with COMI being in force the protections provided to the consumer may be eroded in another jurisdiction where
